Pregnancy is a unique time of life, marked by rapid changes in the body as it accommodates for supporting a new life and preparing for labor. Massage is safe in every trimester. However, if there are chromosomal or genetic abnormalities that will cause a miscarriage, they typically happen in the first 3 months. Many LMTs will not massage during the first trimester, despite scientific evidence that massage does not impact the viability of a pregnancy. Misty Murray, LMT, does perform first trimester prenatal massage. If you have any concerns that massage may negatively influence your pregnancy, please speak to your prenatal care provider before scheduling, or postpone your massage until you feel secure. Every care will be taken during your massage to minimize risk of soreness, to avoid contraindicated aromatherapies, and to provide relief as your body continually adapts to the changing demands of pregnancy.
